Most of us know the power of music from experience. We hear a song that brings us straight back to high school or a Christmas carol that reminds us of a long-ago family tradition. We also have that one (or maybe more) song that can bring us out of a funk and get us back on track to slay all the items on our to-do list.

Blue Light & Your Circadian Rhythm

Humans have evolved to rise with the sun and go to sleep after sunset. Also known as our circadian rhythm, this 24-hour cycle takes us from sleepiness to alertness at regular intervals. A well-functioning circadian rhythm helps us rise, get through our day effectively and fall asleep at night.

The idea that implementing a morning routine may steer your brain toward happiness and productivity is not new. 

Dean and Sara Biggs moved to Northern Nevada when they purchased the Grocery Outlet location in Lemmon Valley in 2013. Four years later they opened the Spanish Springs location in 2017.

After careers built in retail, one of the reasons they wanted to own their own stores was so they could make independent decisions that would best help their local communities. In addition to stocking items in higher demand in their specific locations, they like to give back.

In October of 2017, Kirk Allaire had a crazy-big idea. 

The roots of this idea: As the successful owner of a company called Gratis Payment Processing, he wanted to give back to a non-profit that held great meaning to him personally. In the early days of his company, he contacted this specific charity to try to initiate the process. But he found the simple idea of trying to donate to a national organization to be overwhelming for the company’s bandwidth at the time. 

Some say the best karma is giving to those who need it most. Karma Boxes are starting to pop up all over town, providing non-perishable food, first aid and toiletries to those in need. The Karma Box Project can best be summed up by its slogan, “If it is empty, fill it. If you need it, it is yours.”

Ageism against older adults is something that we have learned through society. Looking at an older person wanting to do something that we believe is out of their capacity because they are old is simply feeding into the concept. I have found someone in the community who really represents the meaning of anti-ageism and that is Jennifer Baker.

We love food. We love drink. And we love raising money for worthwhile causes. The challenge comes when we have to leave our beloved canines at home to do so.

Positivity can and should (in our humble opinions) be part of daily life. But to make positivity a habit, you need to do it – deliberately and repeatedly – until it becomes second nature. Doing something positive for 30 days is a great way to change your outlook and positively impact your community, so we encourage you to embrace our 30 Days of Positivity Challenge this month -- or any month, really!
