COVID-19 has been hard on everyone. It brings a lot of uncertainty to people, which can be anxiety-inducing. Now, imagine going through a pandemic and having to be responsible for another person and their needs. The pressure for family caregivers taking care of others during this time can be overwhelming. With the lack of in-person support groups available due to COVID-19, the Community Foundation is determined to connect family caregivers with one another during this time.
The Community Foundation's Caregiver Support Initiative email discussion group is a new virtual forum that allows people to connect with other family caregivers, share advice, and ask each other questions easily on caregiving-related topics.
To sign up for the email discussion group, please visit https://washoecaregivers.org/connect/. You can pose a question or a topic discussion of your choosing. For example, let’s say you are trying to get better at self-care, but don’t know how to begin. You can send the group a message and ask, “How can I take time for myself without feeling guilty?”
Members of the group can respond to your question. When another member responds to your question, you will receive a response through your email. You can also share experiences and answer the questions of other members in the group.
The Community Foundation moderates each message to ensure a quality experience for each member. Once your question has been approved, it will be visible to the group.
